Indo Gulf Industries Ltd. (IGIL) was incorporated as a public limited company with the name of Indo Gulf Explosive Ltd. in 1981 with the main object to undertake the business of manufacture of explosive etc. The company was registered under the Companies Act 1956 as a public limited company. The company was promoted by Dr. S.K. Garg being a first generation entrepreneur with an objective to set up facilities for manufacture of industrial explosives. IGIL pioneered the manufacture of Slurry Explosives for Mining Industry by putting up its first mechanized plant at Babina (Jhansi) in 1986 in technical collaboration with Gulf Oil Corporation of USA, who is pioneer in the field of Slurry- Based bulk explosives. The total plant was imported from USA. The maiden venture of the company proved techno economically successful and profitable and produced explosive available for deephole blasting in large open cast mines in India.
Encouraged by this, the company did setup 4 SMS (Site Mixing Slurry) Plant at Singrauli (MP), Korba (Chhattisgarh), and Talcher & I.B. Valley (Orissa)
The explosive business had earned to the company, the pioneer status in field of industrial explosive in India. Its products and services earned the best performance award to the company for three consecutive years in 1990, 1991 & 1992.
In the year 1995-96 the company with a view to diversify its activity set up a sugar plant at Maizapur, distt. Gonda, U.P having Cane Crushing Capacity of 3000 TCD. The sugar unit of the IGIL has been demerged from IGIL and merged with Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd.
Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd ( BCML), present promoter of the Company, has taken over the IGIL in pursuance of the Scheme sanctioned on 24.06.2010 by the BIFR.
